SUMMARY:Begging Naked
DESCRIPTION:Against an unforgiving backdrop of homelessness and madness\,
Begging Naked shows the endurance of the human spirit at its most extre
me. In 1996 Karen Gehres was asked by her friend Elise to video tape her
stories of being a teen runaway and prostitute. Elise had lived throug
h experiences that a writer of fiction would have difficulty dreaming up
. When Elise decided to go back into stripping at age 30\, the story we
nt on an unpredictable course. Over the next seven years\, Mayor Guilian
i wiped out the sex businesses on 42nd Street leaving Elise unemployed.
Elise began to spiral mentally out of control\, losing all she ever had.
She currently resides in Central Park. After viewing Begging Naked y
ou will not pass a homeless person again without wanting to know ‘their’
  story.

SUMMARY:Baghead
DESCRIPTION:While the Duplass Brothers were shooting their last feature f
ilm THE PUFFY CHAIR\, a crew member raised the question “what’s the scar
iest thing you can think of?” Someone immediately said “a guy with a bag
on his head staring into your window.” Some agreed\, but some thought i
t was downright ridiculous and\, if anything\, funny (but definitely not
scary). Thus\, BAGHEAD was born\, an attempt to take the absurdly low-
concept idea of a “guy with a bag on his head” and make a funny\, truthf
 ul\, endearing film that\, maybe… just maybe… was a little bit scary\, t

SUMMARY:Traces Of The Trade
DESCRIPTION:This personal documentary tells the story of first-time filmm
aker Katrina Browne's New England ancestors\, the largest slave-trading
family in U.S. history. At Browne’s urging\, nine fellow descendants of
her prominent family agree to journey with her to retrace the steps of t
he Triangle Trade. The group begins their trip from Bristol\, Rhode Isla
nd\, and travel to a slave fort of Ghana then to the sugar plantation in
Cuba. At each stop the family grapples with the contemporary legacy of
slavery\, not only for black Americans\, but for themselves as white Am
ericans. The issues the DeWolf descendants are confronted with dramatize
questions that apply to the nation as a whole: What are the legacies of
slavery? Who owes who what for the sins of the fathers of this country?
What history do we inherit as individuals and as citizens? What would
repair—spiritual and material—really look like and what would it take?

SUMMARY:The Last Mistress
DESCRIPTION:Though this is her first period drama\, the infamous director
of Romance and Fat Girl invests the genre with her characteristically j
aundiced and ruthless view of the human heart\, as well as regions locat
ed further south. Asia Argento is perfectly beautiful and cruel as Velli
ni\, a tempestuous 19th-century belle who refuses to allow her lover Mar
igny (Fu’ad Ait Aattou) to ditch her for a more respectable marriage pro
spect. Like all Breillat's films it's obsessed with sex\, power and gend
er\, its protagonists reduced to tragedy as they desperately wield their
weapons of seduction. Brimming over with scandal and intrigue\, it's a
truly dangerous liaison that strips its cast and their passions bare… an
Asia scorned is a truly dangerous thing.

SUMMARY:Secrecy
DESCRIPTION:Since 9/11 we live in a world where the production of secret
knowledge dwarfs the production of open knowledge. Secrecy is a feature
documentary about the vast\, invisible world of government secrecy. By f
ilming people from the National Security Agency\, the Central Intelligen
ce Agency\, reporters\, and individuals who have been marked by their co
ntact with the national security bureaucracy\, the film probes secrecy's
relationship to fear and executive power. Depending on whom you ask\,
government secrecy is either the key to victory in our struggle against
terrorism\, or our Achilles heel. The movie presents compelling\, if fr
equently unnerving\, arguments from both sides.

SUMMARY:A Man Named Pearl
DESCRIPTION:A bigoted remark dissuades Pearl Fryar from moving into a whi
te\nneighborhood. Told “Black people don’t keep up their yards\,” Pearl
creates an extraordinary topiary garden that conveys his philosophy of l
ove\, peace and goodwill. \nHe didn’t know it then\, but he was creatin

and around the world. Now 67\, Pearl has been featured in dozens of mag

l television programs such as CBS Sunday Morning. A MAN NAMED PEARL is a
subtle and intriguing film that opens both hearts and minds. It offers

shows what one person can achieve when he allows himself to share the fu

SUMMARY:Uncounted: The New Math Of American Elections
DESCRIPTION:In his film\, Uncounted: The New Math of American Elections\,
Emmy award-winning director David Earnhardt takes a close look at an el

w election outcomes can be manipulated and threaten the very core of our
democracy. Uncounted also tells the uplifting story of a few whistlebl

SUMMARY:B.O.H.I.C.A.
DESCRIPTION:DJ Paul’s (Brown alum) directorial debut film B.O.H.I.C.A. is
titled for an acronym “bend over\, here it comes again”. B.O.H.I.C.A.
takes place over 24 hours on a patch of desert in American-occupied Afgh
anistan\, where four US Army Reservists are stuck on a meaningless missi
on guarding a radio tower. Dying of boredom rather than enemy fire\, the
monotony is broken when the US Air Force mistakenly air-drops a keg of
beer and these weekend warriors embark upon an afternoon of booze\, bant
er\, and bonding. But as night falls\, the reality of war interrupts the
drunken respite\, as an Afghani militia attacks their station. B.O.H.I.
C.A. is at once a recognition of the absurdity and futility of war and a
n acknowledgement of the men and women who are compelled to fight it.

SUMMARY:Beautiful Losers
DESCRIPTION:Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most
influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990's a l
oose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little
NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the DIY (do-it-yourself) subcultures o
 f skateboarding\, surf\, punk\, hip hop & graffiti\, they made art that
reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no
influence from the "establishment" art world\, this group\, and the sub
cultures they sprang from\, have now become a movement that has been tra
nsforming pop culture. Starring a selection of artists who are considere
d leaders within this culture\, Beautiful Losers focuses on the telling
of personal stories...speaking to themes of what happens when the outsid
e becomes "in" as it explores the creative ethos connecting these artist
 s and today's youth.

DESCRIPTION:The film WELLNESS will be different things for different peop

a product line called “Wellness”. To some it will be clearly comical… t

film shows so well our capacity for hope shares all too much in common
with our capacity for denial. Director Jake Mahaffy (RISD grad) has han

SUMMARY:Traces Of The Trade
DESCRIPTION:This personal documentary tells the story of first-time filmm
aker Katrina Browne's New England ancestors\, the largest slave-trading
family in U.S. history. At Browne’s urging\, nine fellow descendants of
her prominent family agree to journey with her to retrace the steps of t

nd\, and travel to a slave fort of Ghana then to the sugar plantation in
What would

SUMMARY:Wellness
DESCRIPTION:The film WELLNESS will be different things for different peop
le. On the surface it’s about a man trying to make it as a salesman in
a product line called “Wellness”. To some it will be clearly comical… t
o others the saddest of tragedies. What everyone will share departing t
he cinema is that it is unforgettable. With a trainee salesman that wou

film shows so well our capacity for hope shares all too much in common
with our capacity for denial. Director Jake Mahaffy (RISD grad) has han

DESCRIPTION:Through a passionate mixture of private videos\, uncensored i

SUMMARY:Traces Of The Trade
DESCRIPTION:This personal documentary tells the story of first-time filmm
aker Katrina Browne's New England ancestors\, the largest slave-trading
family in U.S. history. At Browne’s urging\, nine fellow descendants of
her prominent family agree to journey with her to retrace the steps of t

nd\, and travel to a slave fort of Ghana then to the sugar plantation in
What would

SUMMARY:The Fly Boys
DESCRIPTION:What begins as a “new kid to the school” story… unravels into
a creative tale that lends itself to plenty of mayhem and unfathomable
action. The Flyboys breaks away from all the rules governing kids’ films
and becomes a boldly original adventure that proves the genre doesn’t h
ave to play it safe. Unintentionally stowing themselves away on a mobste
r owned airplane… “for the first time in their life they are trying to g
et grounded”. Exceptional performances from the two young leads and int
riguing characters played by Tom Sizemore and Stephen Baldwin\, culminat
 e into a jaw-dropping high-flying experience. Rated PG-13 for violent s

SUMMARY:Woodpecker
DESCRIPTION:Fanatical birdwatchers have descended upon a small town in th
e Arkansas bayou in hopes of finding the celebrated Ivory Billed Woodpec
ker. Declared extinct in the 1940s\, the bird has apparently been spotte
d by numerous experts. Enter amateur birder and poet Johnny Neander\, wh
o has convinced his taciturn sidekick that he will be the one to find th
e elusive woodpecker. The ensuing chaos divides the small town between b
elievers and non-believers\, rabid environmentalists and opportunistic e
ntrepreneurs. Much like the bird itself\, 'Woodpecker' explores the inte
rsection of fact and fiction\, manipulating our notions of documentary a

and some very very strange birds.

how to solve his parents’ insolvency\, beat depression\, and get laid be

With a trainee salesman that wou
ld make the Glengarry Glen Ross crew look like a bunch of amateurs\, the
film shows so well our capacity for hope shares all too much in common
with our capacity for denial. Director Jake Mahaffy (RISD grad) has han

ess for yourself. (Winner SXSW- Grand Jury Best Narrative Feature Award

SUMMARY:The Last Mistress
DESCRIPTION:Though this is her first period drama\, the infamous director
of Romance and Fat Girl invests the genre with her characteristically j

spect. Like all Breillat's films it's obsessed with sex\, power and gend

truly dangerous liaison that strips its cast and their passions bare… an

SUMMARY:Encounters At The End Of The World
DESCRIPTION:Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man\, Rescue Dawn\, Aguirre- The Wrath
of God) confirms his standing as poet laureate of men in extreme situat
ions with Encounters at the End of the World. In this visually stunning
exploration\, Herzog travels to the Antarctic community of McMurdo Stati
on\, headquarters of the National Science Foundation and home to eleven
hundred people during the austral summer (Oct-Feb). Over the course of h
is journey\, Herzog examines human nature and Mother nature\, juxtaposin
g breathtaking locations with the profound\, surreal\, and sometimes abs
urd experiences of the marine biologists\, physicists\, plumbers\, and t
ruck drivers who choose to form a society as far away from society as on
 e can get.
